De M9 A1 is de geupdate versie van de M9, welke sinds 1990 de vervanger is van de 1911 als officieel handpistool van het amerikaanse leger. De M9A1 is in tegenstelling tot de M9 voorzien van een 22mm rail aan de onderkant van de loop voor toevoeging van lampjes en lasers en ook is hij voorzien van agressievere handgrips.
